Intragna

Intragna is a picturesque village in Ticino, located in the Centovalli valley, which links Locarno to the Italian border. The village is notable for the bell tower of the Santa Maria Assunta church, one of the tallest in the canton of Ticino, which overlooks the traditional stone-roofed houses below. The village is served by the scenic Centovalli railway, connecting Locarno with Domodossola in Italy, offering views over the gorges and surrounding hamlets. The local architecture, built from granite stone with narrow cobbled lanes, reflects the rural, mountainous character of the valley. The area is also known for chestnut cultivation, historically a staple food source for local communities. Intragna serves as a popular starting point for walks to nearby hamlets and waterfalls in the Centovalli, including the one at Ponte Brolla. Ticino's mild, almost Mediterranean climate supports the surrounding vegetation of chestnut and olive trees.
