Strassoldo

Strassoldo is a small village in Friuli Venezia Giulia, part of the municipality of Cervignano del Friuli in the province of Udine. It is best known for its two medieval castles, the Castello di Sopra and the Castello di Sotto, surrounded by moats and wooded parkland, which have belonged to the noble family after whom the village is named for generations. The architectural ensemble, with its quiet lanes and spring-fed canals, gives Strassoldo the peaceful character typical of historic Friulian villages. The area lies close to sites of regional significance such as Palmanova, a star-shaped fortress town, and Aquileia, a Roman and early Christian city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Grado and Marano lagoon is also only a short distance away, offering opportunities for walks and exploring the lagoon landscape. The surrounding countryside is known for its wine production, particularly the white wines of the Collio and Colli Orientali areas. Strassoldo is well suited to a quiet stay focused on local heritage, nature and Friulian cuisine, set within a well-preserved rural corner of north-eastern Italy.
