Alpago

Alpago is a municipality in the province of Belluno, in Veneto, formed in 2016 through the merger of several villages, including Chies d'Alpago, Farra d'Alpago, Puos d'Alpago and Pieve d'Alpago. Nestled at the foot of the Dolomite foothills, it borders Lake Santa Croce, a stretch of water well known for sailing and windsurfing thanks to its steady, reliable winds. Surrounded by peaks such as Monte Cavallo, the area is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and countryside walks, with trails linking the alpine pastures to the surrounding woodland. The region retains a strong agricultural and pastoral tradition, reflected in its local cheese production, typical of the alpine malghe. Within easy reach of Belluno and not far from Cortina d'Ampezzo, Alpago makes a peaceful base for exploring the Venetian Dolomites, combining lake, mountain and authentic villages. Its climate, with cold winters and mild summers, supports both winter pursuits and outdoor summer stays in a setting still largely untouched by mass tourism.
