Carona

Carona is a small village in the canton of Ticino, within the district of Lugano, perched on the hillside overlooking Lake Lugano. Its picturesque setting, with cobbled lanes and stone houses typical of Ticino architecture, creates a peaceful atmosphere ideal for gentle walks. The village is particularly known for the Parco San Grato, a botanical garden celebrated for its collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, which are especially striking in spring, as well as for the open views it offers over the lake and surrounding mountains. Carona's elevated position also allows glimpses of Lugano and, on clear days, the Alpine peaks that frame the region. Its proximity to Morcote and Lugano makes it a convenient base for exploring southern Ticino, combining hikes across wooded hills with visits to nearby lakeside towns.
