Mürren

Mürren is a mountain village in the Bernese Oberland, in the canton of Bern, sitting at around 1,650 metres above sea level. Reachable only by cable car or rack railway from the Lauterbrunnen valley, it remains free of road traffic, which adds to its quiet atmosphere. The village offers uninterrupted views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau massif. Nearby stands the Schilthorn, a summit accessible by cable car and home to the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant, which featured as a location in the James Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. The surrounding area offers numerous summer hiking trails, including routes towards Gimmelwald or down into the valley, along with ski slopes and winter sports facilities. The Mürren-Allmendhubel funicular also leads to a well-regarded viewpoint known for its alpine flower meadows in spring. The architecture retains the character of traditional mountain chalets, and the overall atmosphere is that of an authentic alpine resort, popular with both hikers and winter sports enthusiasts alike.
