Castell'Arquato

Castell'Arquato is a medieval hilltop village in the province of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna, set within the Arda valley. Listed among Italy's most beautiful villages ('Borghi più belli d'Italia'), it is known for its well-preserved architectural centre around Piazza del Municipio, regarded as one of Italy's finest medieval squares, flanked by the Collegiata di Santa Maria, a 12th-century Romanesque church, and the Palazzo del Podestà. The Rocca Viscontea, a 14th-century fortress built for the Visconti family, overlooks the village and offers views across the surrounding valley. The Museo Geologico Cortesi reflects the region's marine past, rich in fossils dating back to the Pliocene era.
