Niederried

Niederried, fully known as Niederried bei Interlaken, is a small village in the canton of Bern, located on the northern shore of Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. The village enjoys a peaceful setting, slightly away from the main tourist routes, while remaining close to Interlaken and Brienz, two lively towns in the region. The surrounding landscape is typical of the Bernese Oberland: wooded slopes, sloping meadows and open views over the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz, framed by alpine peaks. The area is popular for outdoor activities, including hiking on the nearby hillsides, swimming and boating on the lake during summer, and cycling along the shoreline. Local architecture retains the traditional wooden chalet style of the region, with a few working farms still in operation. Niederried makes for a quiet base from which to explore the Bernese Oberland, with convenient public transport links to Interlaken, itself a gateway to the Jungfrau massif and other well-known alpine destinations in central Switzerland.
