Lenk

Lenk, also known as Lenk im Simmental, is a village in the canton of Bern located in the Bernese Oberland, at the head of the Simmental valley, at an altitude of around 1,070 metres. It marks the source of the River Simme and serves as a popular starting point for summer walking and winter sports. The Betelberg-Leiterli and Metsch ski areas offer slopes suited to various levels, complemented by cross-country skiing trails along the valley floor. The resort is also known for its sulphurous thermal waters, notably exploited at nearby Lenkerbad, a hamlet renowned for its thermal baths. Lenk additionally hosts hot air balloon flights, thanks to the calm air conditions typical of the valley. Surrounded by mountains such as the Wildstrubel, the setting appeals to those seeking peace and natural surroundings, within reach of better-known resorts like Gstaad and Adelboden. The village retains a rural character, with traditional chalets and an authentic alpine atmosphere, offering a quieter alternative to some of its more bustling neighbours.
