Cabbio

Cabbio is a small village in the Swiss canton of Ticino, part of the municipality of Breggia, located in the Mendrisiotto district close to the Italian border. It lies within the picturesque Val di Muggio, an alpine valley renowned for its mountain pastures, traditional cheese dairies and unspoilt landscapes. The rural, mountainous setting offers a peaceful environment well suited to hiking and exploring Ticino's natural surroundings, particularly towards Monte Generoso, a landmark peak accessible by rack railway from Capolago. The village retains an authentic character, with typical stone architecture and narrow lanes characteristic of mountain hamlets in southern Switzerland. The area is also known for its local produce, especially cheeses made in the surrounding alpine pastures. Cabbio serves as a convenient starting point for exploring the Val di Muggio, its footpaths and its views over the Ticino Prealps and the neighbouring Italian plain. The subalpine climate, softened by southern influences, allows for outdoor activities for much of the year, from summer walking to discovering the region's rural heritage in any season.
