Les Hauderes

Les Haudères is a mountain village in the Val d'Hérens valley, in the heart of the Swiss canton of Valais, sitting at an altitude of around 1,450 metres. Part of the municipality of Evolène, it retains traditional Valais architecture, with its blackened larch-wood chalets and granaries raised on stone pillars to protect harvests from rodents. The village serves as a popular starting point for hiking, particularly towards the high plateaus of Arolla and Ferpècle, as well as several mountain huts accessible from the valley, including routes leading towards nearby glaciers. Surrounded by peaks frequently exceeding 3,000 metres, the setting also lends itself to ski touring and mountaineering during the winter season. The Val d'Hérens region is known for preserving local traditions, including regional costumes still worn on certain occasions. The alpine climate, with mild summers and snowy winters, shapes both the pace of life and the activities on offer throughout the year, combining mountain tranquillity with unspoilt nature.
