Venezia Giudecca

Giudecca is an island in the Venice lagoon, separated from the historic centre by the Giudecca Canal and reachable by vaporetto in just a few minutes. Once a working-class and industrial district, it has retained a more residential and peaceful character than central Venice, offering open views over St Mark's Basin and the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. From Giudecca, it's easy to reach the lagoon islands by boat: Murano, renowned for its glass-blowing craftsmanship, and Burano, known for its brightly coloured houses and lace-making tradition, where you can climb the bell tower for a panoramic view over the canals. The nearby Lido also offers beaches for swimming, a welcome alternative to the often crowded streets and squares of the historic centre. Visiting Venice's classic landmarks, basilicas, palaces and piazzas, remains a must for anyone staying in the area. The Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild but humid winters, strongly affects visits, particularly during the high tide periods (acqua alta) in autumn and winter.
