Malvaglia

Malvaglia is a village in the Blenio Valley, in the canton of Ticino, Italian-speaking Switzerland, a few kilometres from Biasca. The village is known for its Romanesque bell tower attached to the Sant'Ambrogio church, considered one of the tallest in Ticino and a notable example of the region's medieval religious architecture. Nearby, the Malvaglia gorges, carved by a tributary of the Brenno river, form a striking natural site popular for walking and observing rock formations shaped by erosion. The village retains the rural character typical of Ticino's valleys, with stone houses, mountain hamlets, and traditional grotti serving simple regional dishes, often paired with local wines. The Blenio Valley, in which Malvaglia lies, serves as a starting point for mountain excursions, taking in alpine pastures, chestnut forests, and trails leading up to the surrounding peaks. The climate, shaped by both alpine and southern influences, allows outdoor activities for much of the year. Malvaglia remains a quiet destination, valued more for its authenticity and unspoilt natural surroundings than for any large-scale tourist infrastructure.
