Blankenburg

Blankenburg is a small village in the Simmental valley, in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, administratively part of the municipality of Zweisimmen. Nestled in an alpine valley surrounded by meadows and coniferous forests, it retains the rural character typical of this pre-Alpine region. The village is known for its castle, the Schloss Blankenburg, a historic building that reflects the valley's feudal past and serves as a local landmark. The surrounding architecture, with traditional timber chalets and sloping roofs, is characteristic of the Simmental style. The area offers plenty of scope for outdoor activities: hiking trails leading towards the surrounding peaks in summer, and winter sports thanks to its proximity to the resorts of Gstaad and Zweisimmen. The alpine climate brings snowy winters and mild summers, ideal for nature-based stays. Blankenburg makes a peaceful base for exploring the Bernese Oberland, combining rural traditions, unspoilt scenery and easy access to nearby major tourist resorts, while offering calm and authenticity away from the busier tourist crowds.
