Grindelwald

Grindelwald is a mountain village in the Bernese Oberland, set at the foot of the Eiger's north face, one of the most recognisable peaks in the Swiss Alps. The village is a well-known gateway to the Jungfrau region, with cable car and rail links to sites such as Männlichen, First and the Kleine Scheidegg pass, from where the Jungfraujoch can be reached. In winter, Grindelwald offers ski areas connected across First, Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg, catering to various levels of skiers. In summer, the village serves as a base for numerous hiking routes offering views over the surrounding glaciers, including the former Lower Grindelwald Glacier. The First area also features attractions such as a zip line and a suspended cliff walk. The village centre remains fairly compact, with traditional chalets, shops and accommodation geared towards mountain tourism. The region has a distinctly alpine climate, with snowy winters and mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits. Grindelwald is easily reached by train from Interlaken, making it a practical destination for exploring the Bernese Alps without the need for a car.
