Dienten am Hochkönig

Dienten am Hochkönig is a mountain village in the Austrian province of Salzburg, located at the foot of the Hochkönig massif within the Sankt Johann im Pongau district. Sitting at around 1,070 metres above sea level, it forms part of the Hochkönig ski region, which links several neighbouring villages such as Maria Alm and Mühlbach am Hochkönig, providing access to numerous alpine and cross-country ski runs in winter. The surrounding landscape, characterised by limestone peaks and mountain pastures, also draws hikers and climbers during the summer months, with trails leading up towards the Hochkönig summit and its via ferrata routes. The village retains a rural, authentic character typical of Austrian alpine communities, featuring traditional timber architecture and family-run guesthouses. The region experiences a distinct alpine climate, with snowy winters ideal for winter sports and mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits. Dienten am Hochkönig offers a peaceful base for exploring the Pongau landscape, combining unspoilt nature with local tradition, away from the bustle of larger tourist resorts.
