Wengen

Wengen is a car-free Swiss village perched on a plateau within the Jungfrau massif, in the Bernese Oberland. It can only be reached by a rack railway from Lauterbrunnen, which adds to its peaceful, unspoilt character. The village enjoys open views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks, as well as the Lauterbrunnen valley and its waterfalls. In winter, Wengen forms part of the Jungfrau region's ski area and hosts the renowned Lauberhorn downhill race each year, one of the longest and most demanding events on the Alpine Ski World Cup calendar. In summer, the resort serves as a popular starting point for hiking, with direct access to Kleine Scheidegg and trails leading towards the foot of the great Alpine north faces. With its traditional timber chalets, absence of road traffic and mountain setting, Wengen is a favoured destination for a quiet stay in the Alps, whether in the winter or summer season.
