Vira

Vira, part of the municipality of Gambarogno, is a small village in Ticino on the western shore of Lake Maggiore. Benefiting from a mild, Mediterranean-influenced climate, the area is characterised by lush vegetation, with palm trees and exotic plants lining the lakeside. The village has a small harbour with direct access to the water, ideal for swimming, sailing and boat trips to nearby towns such as Ascona and Locarno. A cable car connects Vira to the heights of Alpe di Neggio, offering sweeping views over Lake Maggiore and the surrounding peaks, and serves as a starting point for mid-mountain walking trails. The nearby Magadino plain and the Bolla delta nature reserve add further appeal for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The wider Gambarogno region is also known for its fruit orchards and wine production. With its blend of watersports, hiking and unspoilt natural surroundings, Vira makes for a peaceful base from which to explore the lakeside landscapes of southern Ticino.
