Vergeletto

Vergeletto is a small village at the head of the Val Onsernone, in the canton of Ticino, well off the main tourist routes around Locarno. Surrounded by chestnut woods and granite slopes, the hamlet retains a traditional rural architecture, with stone houses and slab roofs typical of the valley. A cable car connects the village to Alpe di Salei, a popular starting point for hikes up to the surrounding alpine pastures and ridges, offering wide views over the valley below. Long isolated, the Val Onsernone has kept an authentic, unhurried character, well suited to nature-focused, quiet stays. The area around Vergeletto is ideal for walking, exploring forest paths and small mountain streams, and taking in well-preserved rural architecture. The atmosphere is calm and rural, a world away from the busier lakeside resorts of Ticino. At the same time, the proximity of Locarno makes it easy to combine a peaceful mountain stay with day trips to Lake Maggiore and its livelier surroundings.
