Val-d'Illiez

Val-d'Illiez is a village in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, set in the Chablais region within the valley that bears its name, between Monthey and Champéry. Nestled at the foot of the Dents du Midi mountains, it retains a distinctly alpine character, with traditional wooden chalets and old hamlets scattered across the hillsides. The village forms part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, which links numerous Swiss and French resorts and offers extensive access to pistes and lifts during the winter months. In summer, the surrounding region is well suited to walking, with trails leading up to nearby alpine pastures and viewpoints over the Rhône valley. Mountain farming, particularly dairy production, remains an important local activity, and cheese-making follows the well-established Valaisan raclette tradition. The village has preserved a quiet, unhurried atmosphere, set apart from the busier tourist resorts nearby such as Champéry, while still benefiting from their proximity. The alpine climate, with snowy winters and mild summers, shapes both daily life and the range of activities available to visitors throughout the year.
