Urmein

Urmein is a small mountain village in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, perched on the slopes of the Heinzenberg region in eastern Switzerland, an area known for its abundant sunshine and sweeping views over the Domleschg valley. Sitting at an altitude of around 1,300 metres, the village retains an authentic alpine character, with traditional Grisons-style houses built in wood and stone. The peaceful, green surroundings in summer and snow-covered landscape in winter make it a pleasant base for hiking along the Heinzenberg trails, as well as for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the colder months. Larger resorts such as Feldis or Tenna are within easy reach, offering ski lifts and downhill slopes nearby. Urmein appeals particularly to those seeking nature and quiet, away from the busier tourist spots, with unobstructed views of the surrounding peaks. The wider Domleschg region, well known for its castles and historic sites, can easily be explored from the village thanks to a network of well-maintained mountain roads.
