Trin

Trin is a village in the Surselva region of the canton of Graubünden, in eastern Switzerland. It lies close to the Ruinaulta, the gorge of the Anterior Rhine, a landscape shaped by a massive rockslide that occurred several thousand years ago and is regarded as one of the most striking natural features in the Alps. The village is served by the Rhaetian Railway, whose line runs directly through this remarkable gorge. Trin retains the rural character typical of the Surselva, where Romansh is still spoken alongside German. The mountainous surroundings make it well suited to walking and hiking in summer, with trails leading to higher ground and offering views over the Rhine valley. In winter, the nearby Flims-Laax ski area provides access to downhill skiing, while cross-country trails are maintained locally. Mountain farming, particularly livestock rearing, continues to shape the surrounding landscape. Trin therefore offers a quiet base from which to explore the natural scenery of Graubünden, combining a dramatic gorge with alpine views, away from the busier resorts nearby.
