Täsch

Täsch is a village in the canton of Valais, located in the Mattertal valley at around 1,300 metres above sea level, at the foot of the Valais Alps. Its main distinguishing feature is its role as a transport hub: since private motor vehicles are banned in Zermatt, Täsch is the last village accessible by car before the resort. Large covered car parks and a shuttle train service, taking just a few minutes to reach Zermatt, make it an essential stopover for visitors to the region. Despite this, the village retains an authentic character, with traditional timber chalets and a quiet mountain atmosphere, far removed from the tourist bustle of its famous neighbour. The surrounding area offers direct access to hiking trails linking the valley to nearby alpine pastures, along with scenic views of the surrounding peaks, including glimpses of the Matterhorn from certain vantage points. In winter, its proximity to Zermatt's ski area also draws winter sports enthusiasts. Täsch therefore remains a practical and peaceful destination, valued for its genuine alpine setting and its role as the gateway to one of Switzerland's best-known resorts.
