Schluein

Schluein is a small village in the Surselva region of the Swiss canton of Graubünden, in eastern Switzerland. Following an administrative merger, it now forms part of the municipality of Ilanz/Glion and lies in the Vorderrhein (Anterior Rhine) valley, close to Ilanz, often described as the first town along this river's course. The region retains a strong Romansh-speaking heritage, one of Switzerland's national languages still used locally, lending the area a distinctive cultural character. The surrounding landscape, typical of Surselva, combines meadows, coniferous forests and alpine peaks, making it well suited to hiking in summer and winter sports in colder months, thanks to the nearby Flims-Laax ski area. The village's quiet setting makes it a convenient base for exploring the Anterior Rhine valley, its traditional stone-and-timber villages, and the Rhine Gorge further downstream. The area enjoys a continental mountain climate, with cold, snowy winters and mild summers, providing suitable conditions for outdoor activities throughout the year.
