Schlatt - Haslen

Schlatt-Haslen is a small locality in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, in eastern Switzerland, situated close to the town of Appenzell and the Alpstein massif, overlooked by the Säntis peak. The area's typical landscape of green hills, pastures and traditional wooden houses provides a peaceful rural setting, well suited to countryside stays. It serves as a convenient base for hiking trips into the Alpstein, towards the Säntis, or in the direction of Lake Constance, as well as for visiting nearby villages known for their distinctive Appenzell architecture and painted façades. Traditional dairy farming, particularly the production of Appenzeller cheese, remains an important local activity and can often be observed on surrounding farms. In winter, snow-covered paths are popular for sledging and snowshoeing, while summer favours walking and cycling. The short distance to the town of Appenzell also gives easy access to shops, restaurants and public transport, while still allowing visitors to enjoy a quiet, distinctly Swiss rural environment.
