Saas-Almagell

Saas-Almagell is a mountain village in the Saas Valley, in the canton of Valais, sitting at an altitude of around 1,670 metres. It is one of the four settlements in the valley, alongside Saas-Fee, Saas-Grund and Saas-Balen, and is known for its more authentic character, seeing less mass tourism than its neighbours. The village is surrounded by peaks rising above 4,000 metres, including the Weissmies, providing a striking alpine backdrop well suited to summer hiking and mountaineering. Several trails lead from the village to mountain huts and towards the Mattmark reservoir further up the valley. In winter, the area offers modest skiing and snow sports facilities linked to the wider Saas Valley network. Traditional Valais architecture is well preserved here, with timber chalets darkened by age and old granaries known as raccards. The Vispa river runs through the valley, adding to the area's natural setting. Saas-Almagell suits travellers seeking a quiet, nature-focused stay centred on mountain activities, away from the busier resorts nearby.
