Laax

Laax is a mountain resort in the canton of Graubünden, in eastern Switzerland, sitting at around 1,000 metres above sea level. It forms part of the Flims-Laax-Falera ski area, one of the largest in Switzerland, which extends up to the Vorab glacier and peaks at Crap Sogn Gion. The resort is especially popular among snowboarders and freestyle skiers thanks to its purpose-built terrain parks, including the Freestyle Academy, drawing a largely young and international crowd. The village itself, with its traditional Graubünden architecture and baroque church, contrasts with the modern Rocksresort complex, a purpose-built development of accommodation and shops at the foot of the slopes. In summer, the area becomes ideal for hiking, downhill mountain biking and exploring the surrounding alpine scenery, notably around the turquoise waters of Lake Cauma. Laax enjoys a typical alpine climate, with snowy winters well suited to winter sports and mild summers. Its proximity to Chur and access via the Rhaetian Railway make it an easily reachable destination from major Swiss cities.
