Disentis

Disentis, known as Mustér in Romansh, is a village in the canton of Graubünden, located in the Surselva region at the heart of the Swiss Alps. It is best known for its Benedictine abbey, founded in the early Middle Ages, whose current buildings largely date from the 18th century and dominate the local landscape. The village is a stop on the Glacier Express, the scenic railway line connecting St Moritz and Zermatt, and also lies on the route over the Oberalp Pass. Disentis has its own ski area, Disentis 3000, popular for alpine skiing and snowshoeing during the winter months. In summer, the surrounding region offers walking and mountain biking opportunities amid a typical Graubünden mountain setting of forests, alpine pastures and peaks such as Piz Cavradi. Romansh culture remains part of everyday life here, reflected in the local language and certain regional traditions. The alpine climate brings cold, snowy winters and mild summers, making outdoor activities possible throughout much of the year.
