Altenmarkt im Pongau

Altenmarkt im Pongau is a village in the Austrian state of Salzburg, lying in the Enns valley at the foot of the Radstadt Tauern mountains, within the Pongau region. Together with Radstadt, Flachau and the nearby Zauchensee lake, it forms the Snow Space Salzburg ski area, part of the wider Ski amadé network. The neighbouring resort of Zauchensee is well known for regularly hosting FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races, including downhill and super-G events for women, giving the area a notable reputation during the winter season. In summer, the surrounding countryside offers good conditions for hiking and cycling amid alpine pastures and forests typical of the Pongau district. Traditional Salzburg farmhouses can still be found in the local architecture, and the parish church reflects the valley's long-standing religious heritage. With convenient access via the Tauern motorway (A10) and the railway line connecting Salzburg to Carinthia, Altenmarkt im Pongau serves as a practical base for exploring the Salzburg Alps, whether for winter sports or summer outdoor pursuits.
