Davos

Davos, in the canton of Graubünden, is one of the highest towns in Europe, sitting at around 1,560 metres above sea level in the Landwasser valley. Long known for its clean mountain air, it was home in the early twentieth century to sanatoriums that inspired Thomas Mann's novel "The Magic Mountain". Today, the town is best known for hosting the World Economic Forum each year. In terms of outdoor pursuits, Davos boasts an extensive ski area spread across the Parsenn, Jakobshorn and Rinerhorn sectors, popular with both skiers and snowboarders. In summer, the many hiking trails around Lake Davos and up towards the Schatzalp draw outdoor enthusiasts. The town's natural ice rink, one of the largest in Europe, is used for skating and ice hockey, a sport with a strong local following. Its proximity to Klosters and direct rail links from Zurich or Chur make it an accessible base. The dry, sunny mountain climate has long contributed to the area's historic reputation as a health resort.
