Obertauern

Obertauern is a ski resort in the Austrian state of Salzburg, sitting at the top of the Radstädter Tauern Pass at around 1,740 metres above sea level. This high altitude gives it a reputation for reliable snow cover, with a ski season typically running from November to May. The ski area offers around 100 kilometres of pistes served by roughly 30 lifts, centred on the well-known Tauernrunde, a circular route that allows skiers to loop right around the resort without removing their skis. The village itself developed primarily as a winter sports destination, with numerous chalet-style hotels, restaurants and a lively après-ski scene. In summer, the surrounding area is suited to hiking and mountain biking, with views over the mid-altitude peaks of the Radstadt Alps. The historic walled town of Radstadt lies around twenty minutes away by car. Obertauern draws visitors mainly for winter sports, set within a typical alpine landscape characteristic of Salzburg province.
