Sölden

Sölden is a winter sports resort in the Austrian Tyrol, set in the Ötztal valley at around 1,377 metres above sea level. It is known for a ski area extending beyond 3,300 metres thanks to the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers, which ensure reliable snow cover from autumn through to spring. Each year, the resort hosts the opening races of the Alpine Ski World Cup, with giant slalom events held on these glacier slopes. The summit of Gaislachkogl, reached by cable car, offers panoramic views across the Ötztal Alps and is home to '007 Elements', an exhibition space dedicated to the filming of the James Bond film Spectre. Sölden also features a leisure centre with swimming pools and wellness facilities, along with a lively après-ski scene of bars and traditional restaurants. The Ötztaler Ache river runs through the village, surrounded by peaks frequently exceeding 3,000 metres. In summer, the region is well suited to hiking and mountain biking. Sölden therefore offers a versatile destination, combining challenging alpine skiing, modern infrastructure and the characteristic alpine scenery of Tyrol.
