Bussang

Bussang is a village in the Vosges department, within the mountain range of the same name, notable as the source of the River Moselle, with a landscaped spring open to walkers. The village is also known for the Théâtre du Peuple, founded in 1895 by Maurice Pottecher, an unusual wooden theatre where open-air performances are staged each summer against a forest backdrop. Bussang was long visited for its mineral waters, exploited since the 19th century within a spa establishment. The Col de Bussang, a historic mountain pass linking Lorraine and Alsace, lies close by and offers hiking routes towards Vosges summits, including the Ballon d'Alsace. The village has a small ski area suited to family winter breaks. The surrounding landscape features Vosges forest, upland pastures and traditional stone-and-timber buildings. Bussang serves as a good base for exploring the Vosges valleys, combining unspoilt nature, industrial heritage tied to timber and water, and outdoor activities throughout the year.
