Remiremont

Remiremont is a town in the Vosges department, located at the confluence of the Moselle and Moselotte rivers, close to the Vosges mountains and resorts such as Gérardmer. The town grew up around an abbey of canonesses founded in the 7th century, of which the Saint-Pierre abbey church still stands. Its historic centre is notable for its 17th-century arcades lining the main street, home to shops and cafés and giving the town a distinctive pedestrian character typical of old Lorraine towns. Remiremont is also known for its Venetian-style carnival, an annual local event that draws visitors from the surrounding region. The town has a municipal museum, the Musée Charles-de-Bruyères, dedicated to fine art and local history. Its location makes it a convenient base for exploring the Vosges, with opportunities for forest walks, visits to nearby villages and access to mountain passes. The climate is continental, with cold winters and countryside that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
