Plainfaing

Plainfaing is a village in the Vosges department, in the Grand Est region of France, nestled in the Meurthe valley at the foot of the Vosges mountains. Its location near the Col du Bonhomme, which links Lorraine to Alsace, makes it a convenient gateway for exploring both sides of the mountain range. The forested, mountainous surroundings typical of this part of the Vosges provide an excellent setting for hiking and mountain biking, while winter brings opportunities for skiing at nearby resorts such as La Bresse or the Col du Bonhomme itself. The village also lies close to Gérardmer and its well-known lakes, one of the region's major tourist draws. The landscape of fir forests, traditional farms and rural inns is characteristic of this part of the Vosges. Local gastronomy, featuring specialities such as Munster cheese and regional charcuterie, reflects the area's strong Vosgian identity.
