Champagney

Champagney is a small town in the Haute-Saône department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, nestled at the foothills of the Vosges mountains. It is best known for the Maison de la Négritude et des Droits de l'Homme, a museum housed in the former presbytery and dedicated to the history of slavery, linked to the 1789 petition drawn up by local residents calling for its abolition. The town lies close to Ronchamp, home to Le Corbusier's Notre-Dame-du-Haut chapel, and to the Ballon d'Alsace, a popular spot for hiking and outdoor pursuits. The rural, hilly surroundings make for a peaceful setting, ideal for country walks and exploring local heritage among forests, meadows and small streams typical of the area. The climate is continental, with cool winters and mild summers well suited to outdoor stays. Champagney serves as a convenient base for exploring Haute-Saône and the Territoire de Belfort, with reasonably easy access to the main roads connecting the region to Alsace and neighbouring Franche-Comté.
