Mauvages

Mauvages is a small village in the Meuse department, in the Lorraine region of north-eastern France, best known for its remarkable canal tunnel, which runs beneath the hill separating the Meuse and Rhine river basins along the Marne–Rhine Canal. Stretching almost five kilometres, this nineteenth-century engineering feat is one of the longest navigable tunnels in France and draws those interested in industrial heritage and inland waterway travel. The village itself retains a peaceful rural character, surrounded by wooded hills and farmland typical of the Lorraine countryside, making it a pleasant spot for walking and taking in the surrounding landscape.
