Montmedy

Montmédy is a town in the Meuse department, in the Grand Est region of France, close to the Belgian border. The town is best known for its fortified citadel, remodelled by Vauban in the 17th century, which overlooks the upper town and provides views across the Chiers valley and the surrounding hilly countryside. This stronghold, recognised as one of France's notable military heritage sites, is the main point of interest in the area, featuring ramparts, fortified gates and architecture reflecting the region's military history. The lower town, more residential in character, complements this historic ensemble. Montmédy lies within a rural area of northern Meuse, well suited to outdoor activities such as walking and exploring local heritage, amid forests, waterways and villages typical of Lorraine. The region has a continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters.
