Etain

Étain is a small town in the Meuse department, in France's Grand Est region, set on the banks of the River Orne. Located around twenty kilometres from Verdun, the town was almost entirely destroyed during the First World War and rebuilt during the interwar period, which explains the uniform architectural style of its town centre, typical of reconstructed towns in the region. Étain makes a convenient base for exploring the major WWI memorial sites nearby, including the Douaumont Ossuary, Fort de Vaux and the Verdun battlefield.
