Saint-Nicolas-de-Port is a town in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, in the Lorraine region, located around fifteen kilometres south of Nancy, along the Meurthe river. It is best known for its basilica, an imposing Flamboyant Gothic building constructed between the 15th and 16th centuries, listed as a historic monument and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. This sanctuary, dedicated to Saint Nicholas and home to one of his relics, long attracted pilgrims from across the region and remains the town's main point of interest today. The compact town centre is easy to explore on foot, with a handful of shops and cafés around the main square. The area enjoys a temperate continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters typical of north-eastern France. Its proximity to Nancy, renowned for its Art Nouveau heritage and the Place Stanislas, makes it a convenient base for exploring the Lorraine capital while staying in a quieter setting.
