Toul

Toul is a town in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, in the Lorraine region, around twenty kilometres from Nancy. Once an episcopal city, it retains fortifications attributed to Vauban, along with the Gothic Saint-Étienne Cathedral and its cloister. The town is crossed by the Moselle river and bordered by the Marne-Rhine Canal, home to a marina popular for waterside walks. Toul lies at the heart of the Côtes de Toul vineyards, an AOC region best known for its distinctive grey wine, which can be sampled at local producers. The town's military history is also notable, with an air base situated nearby. The historic centre, with its narrow streets and old houses, is well suited to a leisurely stroll. Toul makes a convenient base for exploring the wider Lorraine region, combining religious heritage, military architecture and vineyard scenery. The climate is continental, with mild summers and cool winters typical of eastern France.
