Montargis

Montargis, a town in the Loiret department within the Centre-Val de Loire region, is often called the 'Venice of the Gâtinais' due to its network of canals, including the Canal de Briare, which flows through the historic centre and is crossed by numerous bridges and footbridges. The old town retains timber-framed houses and picturesque lanes along the waterways, ideal for a leisurely stroll. Montargis is also known as the birthplace of the pralin, a confection of caramelised almonds created in the 17th century and still produced locally to the original recipe.
