La ferte st aubin

La Ferté-Saint-Aubin is a town in the Loiret department, in the Sologne region, around twenty kilometres south of Orléans. It is best known for its château, a fine example of classical brick-and-stone architecture surrounded by a moat and wooded parkland, whose outbuildings—stables, kennels and service quarters—are also open to visitors. The town borders the Forêt d'Orléans, one of the largest woodland areas in France, offering marked trails for walking, hiking and cycling. The surrounding Sologne countryside, dotted with lakes and woodland, is popular for hunting, fishing and wildlife watching. The town centre retains a traditional feel, with local shops, a market and restaurants serving regional dishes based on game and wild mushrooms in season. The local railway station, served by regional trains, provides convenient links to Orléans. The area enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with mild summers and moderate winters, making outdoor activities possible for much of the year. La Ferté-Saint-Aubin makes a practical base for exploring the Loire Valley and its neighbouring châteaux.
