Sully sur loire

Sully-sur-Loire is a town in the Loiret department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, set on the banks of the Loire River and marking the eastern starting point of the UNESCO-listed Loire Valley. Its moated medieval château was once the residence of Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of Sully and minister to Henri IV, and later hosted Voltaire during a period of exile. The castle, notable for its keep and inverted ship-hull timber roof, is open to visitors year-round and remains the town's main landmark. Each summer, a classical music festival takes place in the château's courtyard. The town also lies along the Loire à Vélo cycle route, popular for riverside rides and views of the surrounding Loire Valley landscape. Sully-sur-Loire enjoys a mild, semi-oceanic climate with gentle summers and moderate winters. Located around thirty kilometres from Orléans, it makes a convenient base for exploring the châteaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley, combining historical heritage, riverside scenery and a relaxed regional pace of life.
