Meung sur loire

Meung-sur-Loire is a town in the Loiret department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, located around twenty kilometres south-west of Orléans, on the banks of the Loire river, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is known for its medieval castle, altered over the centuries, as well as the Saint-Liphard collegiate church, a reminder of its religious past. Meung-sur-Loire is also linked to Jean de Meung, the medieval author of the Roman de la Rose, and to the poet François Villon, who was imprisoned here. The town is crossed by the sources of the Mesvrin, a natural curiosity formed by an underground river that resurfaces at several points in the town centre. The La Loire à Vélo cycle route passes nearby, offering rides along the river through meadows, hedgerows and typical Loire Valley villages. The local market and small shops bring life to the historic centre. Thanks to its location, Meung-sur-Loire makes a convenient base for exploring the châteaux of the Loire Valley, including Beaugency and Chambord, as well as the city of Orléans, while enjoying a quieter, more rural setting.
