Mareau aux pres

Mareau-aux-Prés is a small rural commune in the Loiret département, within the Loire Valley, just a few kilometres south-west of Orléans. The village lies on an agricultural plain bordering the Loire River and is well known locally for asparagus growing, a regional speciality cultivated in the area's sandy soils for generations. The setting is quiet and green, ideal for walking or cycling, particularly thanks to its proximity to the Loire à Vélo cycle route, which runs through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Loire Valley. The village retains a traditional character, with a church and stone-built houses typical of the region. Its location makes it easy to reach Orléans, a historic university city, as well as other nearby towns in the Loiret such as Olivet or Cléry-Saint-André, known for its basilica. The surrounding countryside offers a classic Loire Valley landscape of market gardens, woodland and waterways, making it a peaceful base while remaining close to local amenities and the wider tourist attractions of the Val de Loire.
