Ceyssac

Ceyssac is a former fortified village now part of the commune of Le Puy-en-Velay, in the Haute-Loire department, at the heart of the Velay region in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Perched on a rocky outcrop, it retains the remains of a medieval castle and a fortified gateway that reflect its defensive past, along with a Romanesque church. The village lies close to the Way of St James (Via Podiensis), making it a popular stopover for pilgrims setting off from Le Puy-en-Velay. Surrounded by the volcanic landscapes of the Velay and the Borne gorges, the area is well suited to walking and exploring the countryside. Its proximity to Le Puy-en-Velay provides easy access to the town's landmark sites, such as Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe chapel, as well as to local shops and produce, including the AOP green lentils of Le Puy and Le Puy lace. Ceyssac offers a peaceful, rural setting and makes a convenient base for discovering the historical and natural heritage of the Haute-Loire.
