Vergezac

Vergezac is a small rural village in the Haute-Loire département, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, located on the Velay plateau just a few kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay. This mid-mountain area, shaped by its volcanic past, features open plateaus, meadows and woodland ideal for walking and exploring the Auvergne countryside. The climate is semi-continental, with mild summers and colder winters due to the altitude. Its proximity to Le Puy-en-Velay, a historic town known for its cathedral and the Notre-Dame de France statue, allows visitors to combine a peaceful stay with some cultural sightseeing. The region is also known for its agriculture, particularly the Puy green lentil, grown in the surrounding volcanic soil. Vergezac therefore makes a quiet base for exploring the Velay area, its traditional stone villages and its network of walking trails, some of which form part of the historic Way of St James pilgrimage routes crossing this part of the département. The overall atmosphere remains rural and unspoilt, well away from mass tourism.
