Valencay

Valençay is a town in the Indre department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, best known for its Renaissance château, once owned by Prince Talleyrand in the 19th century. Set within extensive grounds, the château houses period furnishings and displays relating to Talleyrand's diplomatic career, while the park also includes some animal enclosures. The town lends its name to a well-known goat's cheese with AOP status, easily recognised by its distinctive truncated pyramid shape and widely available at local markets and producers. The surrounding vineyards produce white, red and rosé wines under the Valençay appellation, made from grape varieties typical of the Loire Valley. The River Nahon runs through the town, providing a pleasant green setting for walks. Valençay lies along the popular Loire Valley château trail, close to other heritage sites in the Loir-et-Cher and Indre départements. The town centre retains traditional Berry-style architecture and offers shops, local markets and accommodation suited to visitors keen to explore this rural, heritage-rich part of central France.
