Orsennes

Orsennes is a small rural village in the Indre department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, set at the heart of the Brenne Regional Nature Park, often nicknamed the 'Brenne of a thousand ponds'. This area is well known for its patchwork of lakes and ponds, protected wetlands and rich birdlife, making it a popular spot for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The village itself offers a peaceful, green setting typical of the Berry countryside, ideal for walking and rambling through woodland, meadows and ponds. The nearby Éguzon-Chantôme lake, a little further south, also allows for water-based activities such as swimming, canoeing and fishing. The surrounding countryside remains largely unspoilt, with traditional stone houses and well-preserved farmland. It's an appealing area for cycling and exploring the local heritage, including small villages and rural churches. Orsennes therefore makes a quiet base from which to discover the Brenne, enjoy its mild oceanic climate, and experience a form of green tourism away from busy towns, within a largely untouched natural environment.
