Forstau

Forstau is a small mountain village in the Austrian state of Salzburg, within the Pongau region, close to the Enns valley. Set in a typical alpine landscape, the village forms part of the Snow Space Salzburg ski area, which links several resorts including Flachau, Wagrain and Zauchensee, giving access to an extensive network of pistes for winter sports enthusiasts. During the winter months, Forstau draws skiers and cross-country skiing fans thanks to its altitude and generally reliable snow cover. In summer, the surrounding area is well suited to walking and mountain biking, with trails crossing alpine meadows and mountain forests, offering views of the neighbouring peaks of the Salzburg Alps. The village retains a rural, authentic character, with traditional Austrian wooden chalet architecture. Local cuisine reflects the classic specialities of the Austrian Alps, featuring hearty dishes suited to the mountain climate.
